Coffs Harbour

If you’re heading to Coffs Harbour with kids, you’re in for a memorable adventure.  This coastal gem on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, is packed with fun activities for families, making it a great destination for kids of all ages.  One of the must-see attractions is, of course, the famous Big Banana.  This iconic landmark is more than just a giant fruit, it’s part of the Big Banana Fun Park, where kids can enjoy a range of activities, from a water park and ice skating rink to a fantastic amusement park with rides that will have them smiling all day.

If your little ones love animals, Coffs Harbour has some great wildlife experiences too.  You can also visit the Coffs Harbour Butterfly House, where the kids can walk through a lush tropical environment filled with vibrant butterflies.  Or, take a trip to the nearby Coffs Coast Wildlife Sanctuary, where they can get up close and personal with dolphins, seals, and other marine animals.

For some outdoor fun, head to one of Coffs Harbour’s beautiful beaches.  The shallow waters of Jetty Beach are perfect for little swimmers and is usually patrolled from 27 December to 26 January.  If you want to give the kids an opportunity to try their hand at fishing, head to the Coffs Harbour Marina and enquire about their paid boat tours and fishing charters.  For a different perspective, you could take the kids to try bird and whale watching by exploring the nearby Giidany Miirlarl, also known as Muttonbird Island Nature Reserve.  Eastern Side Lookout is a fairly easy walk and leads to fantastic views over the ocean, ideal for whale watching during certain times of the year.  At other times, you won’t have to go far to spot some local wildlife nesting or relaxing on the island.

Coffs Harbour is well equipped for outdoor activities, with playgrounds, parks, and picnic areas scattered throughout.  Families can enjoy cycling or strolling along foreshore paths, and there are designated areas for barbecues or quiet breaks by the water.  The region is also known for its local produce, including fresh seafood and tropical fruits, with markets and cafés providing plenty of opportunity to sample the local flavours.

Coffs, as it is commonly referred to, combines coastal landscapes, wildlife encounters, and outdoor recreation, offering a variety of experiences for kids.  From beaches and walking trails to wildlife reserves and local attractions, the town provides opportunities to explore, learn, and enjoy the natural surroundings of this beautiful region.
