Nestled on the sparkling Mid North Coast of New South Wales, the twin towns of Forster and Tuncurry offer calm waterways, family-friendly activities, and easy access to safe swimming spots.  Located on opposite sides of Wallis Lake, the towns provide a unique coastal experience with enclosed swimming areas.

In Forster, Main Beach features Forster Ocean Baths, providing a protected space to swim.  This area is patrolled on certain days from October to April by either professional or volunteer life guards.  There are BBQ areas, a cafe, picnic areas and car parking, providing those families with younger kids ease of access.  A little further along beachfront, parking at Head Street and walking towards the beach, you will find The Tanks which is another popular place for families to explore these unique rock formations enclosing rock pools.  This area is popular however it is not patrolled by lifesavers.

On the other side of Wallis River, Tuncurry’s Rock Pool, located near the foreshore, is another popular spot with families, but again, this area is not patrolled by life guards.

Both towns provide access to calm, shallow parts of Wallis Lake that are suitable for kayaking or paddle boarding, although swimming in the lake is safest in designated, enclosed areas.  Fishing from local jetties or small boats is a common activity for families visiting the region.

Seafood is a highlight in the area, with fresh oysters, prawns, fish, and mussels available at local cafés and restaurants.  Families can enjoy meals featuring the region’s coastal produce while taking in views of the lake and foreshore.

The natural environment around Forster and Tuncurry is ideal for walks and wildlife spotting.  Coastal boardwalks wind along the foreshore, where native birds and pelicans are frequently seen.  Nearby nature reserves provide opportunities for kids to see kangaroos and other native animals in their natural habitat.

Parks and playgrounds in both towns offer additional spaces for kids to play, while markets and galleries showcase the creativity and culture of the region.

With a focus on enclosed swimming areas, calm lakes, seafood, and wildlife, Forster and Tuncurry offer an unforgettable coastal experience surrounded by eye catching landscapes on New South Wales’ Mid North Coast.
