Busselton Jetty
If you’re planning a family trip to Western Australia, Busselton Jetty is one place you won’t want to miss. It’s famous for being the longest wooden jetty in the Southern Hemisphere. From train rides to underwater adventures, Busselton Jetty offers a relaxed but exciting day out for families of all ages.

The Jetty Train
For little legs that might not manage the long walk to the end of the jetty, the Jetty Train is a huge hit. Kids love hopping aboard the bright red train, and parents will appreciate the easy ride to the end of the jetty, especially on those hot days. The journey itself is an experience, with everyone listening to fascinating facts about the jetty’s history, while enjoying beautiful ocean views over Geographe Bay. The round trip will take 45 minutes and there is a short break at the end of the Jetty which allows you to take in the views and see just how far you are from many places around Australia. If you want to take a longer break between train rides, you may want to schedule your return trip to a later time and head to the Underwater Observatory.
Underwater Observatory
If families want to get closer to the marine life under the water, there is an Underwater Observatory at the end of the jetty. Paid tours are run throughout the day and kids can follow the tour guide down a spiral staircase and look through large windows to see fish, coral, and marine life all without getting wet. It feels like being inside a giant aquarium and is both fun and educational.
Walking the Jetty With Children
If your kids enjoy nice long walks, the 1.8km jetty is perfect. You can take it at your own pace, stop for photos, and talk about sea life along the way. You may be lucky enough to spot dolphins swimming alongside the jetty. With benches spaced along the jetty, you can pause to relax and soak in the peaceful surroundings whilst watching locals try their luck at fishing.
All tours on Busselton Jetty including the walk, are paid experiences with ticket prices helping to support the maintenance and preservation of this iconic landmark. Activities such as the Jetty Train ride and the Underwater Observatory tour require a ticket and prices vary depending on age and the type of experience you choose.

Beaches, Parks, and Playgrounds Nearby
After exploring the jetty, there’s still plenty to do:
- Safe, shallow beaches nearby are ideal for swimming and paddling.
- Grassy picnic areas are great for lunch or snacks.
- Playgrounds close to the foreshore give kids a chance to burn off extra energy.

Busselton Jetty is one of those attractions that truly works for all ages from adventure and discovery to beautiful views of Geographe Bay at a very relaxed pace. Whether it’s your first visit or a return trip, Busselton Jetty is a family experience that’s well worth the visit.
